CORPORATE CROOKED WAYS | 0
Well, corporations must be the happiest when they learned the US Supreme Court decided to hear and vote in favor of Citizens United. Believe me, corporations, CEO's, criminal and greedy Wall Street bankers smell like crap to the world - we're taking rise and you'd better pay attention. Jude Rodriguez 60609

Dear CeCe Stewart: You’re clearly a remarkably talented, intelligent, and directed woman. So am I. I am a professor and a local government official and I serve on the boards of various non-profits. I make about $70,000 a year and have some small investments. It may or may not surprise you to know that on that money, I can travel quite a bit, overseas even, and have quite a bit of independence—I’ve raised two great kids who are working but somewhat marginally employed. I am happy with my life, but very concerned about the future. I am concerned that the current, exponentially widening of the gap between the wealthy and the poor is unsustainable. If this isn’t changed, I fear will be unemployed: there will not be students able to afford college. My college is the one of the biggest employers in Springfield Ohio, a rust-belt town that has really suffered since industry started dying in the latter part of the last century. I believe you are a part of the system that is helping to push us off a cliff. I’m not asking to “smash capitalism” but to make it work for the people, so that we can live sustainably and peacefully on this planet. You can help change the current stance of the financial sector, which seems mired in a refusal to pay its fair share of taxes, let alone to pay for its role in the financial meltdown that we are all still suffering from. It seems to be privatizing profits and socializing debts, as the cliche has it. From where I sit in Ohio, that sector seems to be sucking increasing profits into its grasp, without lending to middle class people who are the ones who creating new jobs and invigorate the economy. (I’m an investor in a small business that provides quite a few good jobs in our town.) If the gap between us—even the one between you and me, two powerful, intelligent, well educated and committed women—continues to widen, I sincerely believe a peaceful and sustainable future won’t be possible. This is an olive branch and a plea for you to stand on the right side of history.
Living graciosly within our means. | 0
My means are not exactly significant, though I do what I can- particularly for small business (very small) in the third world with microfinance. Meanwhile, many Americans are tanking in a rather brutal way. Since my income is low, I help where it will do something, Just curious if you can use your considerable heft to start an American-based small company of some kind and hire a few people who have been unemployed for a year. You’ll feel better, and if the business plan is viable, you’ll make another stack! Nothing wrong with that!

It's long past time for people to stop tolerating excessive greed and its disastrous effects on the political and economic scenes in the U.S. and elsewhere! I am one of those whose net worth may be in the top 1%, but I do my share to help others less fortunate - including by listening to them and understanding the challenges they face. You need to do the same! John Gilbert Hilton Head, SC 29926
You ARE the problem! | 0
You think you're entitled to the "bonus" you give yourself for running your company or our country into the ground?! HOW EXACTLY do you rationalize that!? Bonus means you did WELL! At least to those of us who live in the REAL world! The people who DESERVE the bonus or the credit are the people who actually WORK in the factory or sell your product or ship your product NOT YOU! You do nothing except MAYBE make a decision or two between golf games! You are a small, small, person. Maybe that is why you gratify yourselves with money. . .most of you are HORRIBLE, selfish, self-centered, arrogant human beings who need to be reminded of what it's like OUTSIDE the world of excess. Just remember you cannot make your company profitable ON YOUR OWN! You are only standing on the shoulders of those who are better than you in every way, you need to reward THEM, recognize THEM! Then the world, the economy, our country, can begin to heal and be proud industrious Americans again! Kim Hensley Stockton, CA 95212

This country prospers because we have a large middle class. Diminishing the middle class will only diminish this great country! One can only spend so much money. When one has acchieved this level where one has more money than one can spend - then one is no longer interested in money, but in power! What makes this country so great is that power is invested in "We the People" - NOT in the wealthy few! Dennis Dehn Topeka, KS 66604
