  • Auto Loan | 0

    Dear Mr. Stumpf -
I am a single mother with my own business.  My business requires an automobile.  If I don’t have a van in which I can haul merchandise, I can not work and feed my children.  Wells Fargo financed my auto loan.  When the economy started to cause problems for my business, I called customer service to explain my situation and to make payment arrangements.  I did not want to default on the loan.  I just needed some understanding.  Strangely, whenever I called up, the customer service reps became more and more hostile and threatening toward me.  Every time I made an arrangement with one rep, they would transfer me to another one who told me the agreement wouldn’t work and they needed more money to prevent repossession.  I believe that tactic is called “bait and switch”?  Doesn’t seem ethical to me.  In fact, I believe it violates FTC regulations.  Anyways, I work hard.  Very hard.  I don’t want to be given something I haven’t earned, but I don’t want to be harassed by reps who are trained to intimidate and be rude.  I need human kindness and understanding, Mr. Stumpf, which is not what I am getting from your bank.  Again, because of the economy, I am three months behind on my loan.  Yes, I have the notice, and yes, I will figure out how to pay it so you don’t have to go to the trouble to repossess, but I will not be calling customer service to explain. Your people are impossible to talk to because they are trained to pressure me.If the government had helped people like me instead of bailing banks out, I would have no trouble making my monthly payments. But the situation is what it is.  You got help and forgiveness from the government.  Now it is time to extend that to me and everyone else who owes you money and is being harassed.
    Sincerely,
    Kyndria BrownMadison CT

The decision makers in banks and companies are basically all Republicans. They have the money and the influence to control congress and the Whithouose. Witness how quickly they were rescued from their own mistakes. This was not available to the poor suckers who bought those outragious mortagages. They lost their jobs and are still losing their hiomes as well as every cent they had. How can such crimes go neglected? We are watching it happen and they are not throught yet.

  • COLLEGE LOANS - NO JOBS | 0

My son graduated college with a 4-year degree three years ago (fall 2008), also with a pile of student loans. Guess what? Because of the economic fiasco, he has not been able to find a job in his field to even begin a career! At age 26 now, he works part-time with no benefits at all and cannot repay his college loans because he doesn't make enough to live on! So he lives at home again because he can't afford to live anywhere else, also is recovering from knee surgery that we (64-year-old parents) are going into debt over. We likely will not have enough retirement money to live on.

How about giving us some of the money we loaned to you to get out of trouble???!!! May I suggest something equal to one of the hefty little bonuses you've paid out to your own with that money we lent you?

  • Shrunken income at age 60 | 0

With a BA in English from the first class of women at Yale, I worked in house in publishing for years, before striking out on my own, to start my own editorial service in 1988.

Thanks to the shrinking economy, my formerly reliable, U.S.-based clients have sent more and more and more of the kind of work I always did for them--for respectable fees--overseas. I now work for the overseas, outsourced hubs of my clients, for fixed fees that are much smaller than they used to be.

At age 60, at the top of my career, in terms of experience and expertise, I find myself back in the low double-digit income stratum, in spite of my years of hard work and my excellent reputation.

The thing is, I now know that someone is making plenty of money off the work I do, and I am sure that the CEOs of my clients' companies are not worrying, at age 60, that they will never be able to afford to retire.

I blame this state of affairs directly on the greed and crimes perpetrated on all of us by Wall Street and the banks.

And I am one of the lucky ones--self-employed, and able to cast about for new clients and new opportunities in a way that an out-of-work person with a nine-to-five kind of career must struggle, especially one in my age bracket.

Something's gotta give, and it should no longer be given on the backs of those of us who have worked all our lives to provide for our retirement and our families.

  • Pseudoconservatism | 0

    The sham of modern "conservatism"

    Stop gambling our money away!

The real definition of "conservative" is a political philosophy that embraces time-honored principles that have been shown to have real-world value. One important conservative principle is the need to police the most ruthless and arrogant elements of society, who will steal from society what is not theirs if they are unopposed. Thus, the time-honored need for banking/financial regulation.
The current brand of pseudoconservatives does not seem to care for this principle, or any other that gets in the way of their participation in this very process of taking what is not theirs to take. They may win the next election, but the bankruptcy of their policies will be revealed to all in short order, and hopefully this great country will survive it.

    To Whom It May Concern:
Thanks to the shenanigans surrounding the "home mortgage products", hundreds of thousands of good, hard working, unsuspecting people and their children are without their homes. • denied interest rate reduction | 0

I had an RV loan with Bank of America, on which they were charging me such high interest rates that it was becoming more and more difficult to make the monthly payments. This RV was my home for four years. When I requested a significantly reduced rate, it was denied. I finally ended up having to take money out of my retirement account to pay off this loan . . . and now that I'm retired, I need that extra income, which went to Bank of America.

  • foreclosure | 0

My daughter (with my son's help) purchased a house 5 years ago in North Las Vegas, Nevada. My daughter's home loan was for $280,000. After the housing fiasco, her house was worth less than $90,000. She tried, unsuccessfully, to renegotiate the loan with Bank of America. The company representative told her that the bank would not renegotiate the loan. Instead he told her to get a second job to help her pay the mortgage of over $2,000 per month. The house went into foreclosure, my son and daughter lost all the money they had invested in the home, and my daughter, her new husband, and baby are living in a small apartment in Las Vegas. She is an elementary school teacher with a Masters in Education whose salary and benefits have been cut by the governor of Nevada significantly. Her husband is currently unemployed.
My house that I purchased in Ontario, California, 7 years ago for $454,000 with a down payment of $190,000, is now worth $300,000. I can't refinance because I don't receive enough money each month. I am a retired school teacher who receives $24,000 per year. My mortgage payments ar $24,000 per year. My son, who lives with me, is now unemployed.
The foreclosure mess is all YOUR fault! The lack of jobs is all YOUR fault!
You and the large corporations are out to destroy this country with your greed!!
THIS HAS GOT TO STOP IMMEDIATELY!
You need to be held responsible for your decisions; the consequences should be severe!
Every one of the CEO's should be made to give his/her bonuses received during the years since 2008 to a fund to help those of us on Main Street; you should be fired from his/her position with no ability to work in the banking/investment industry again; you should have to appear in court for your criminal activities and should have to serve time as do all the other thieves in our country! You have robbed the Middle Class of their homes, their retirement accounts, and their jobs and YOU SHOULD BE MADE TO PAY!!!

  • C'mon "PUB's, let's bail out the corporations | 0

Even when the overvalued stocks crashed, the republicans rushed in with a rescue plan -but - let the working guy lose his/her job & we were "drowning ourselves in debt" by trying to put a little food $$ in our pockets. Ah, what wastrels we've become. Our buying power saved the economies of Japan, Germany, Korea, to name a few but we finally hit a wall when helping out China ( Bush senior's bogeyman), & India at the same time, no less. And so, the only way we can compete is by working for slave wages.& relying heavily on "spell check". I even had a boss who didn't know what "underscore" mean't.
AND, please remember, folks, that when the wealthy talk about raising tax's, they are really just complaining about one or more of their own tax breaks expiring for THEMSELVES !!!

I know there are lots of people with stock in these companies who have sympathy with OWS. There needs to be another organized effort for these people to get into the board rooms and speak for the 1%. Stock holders, big or small, are invited to annual meetings and should express peacefully face to face their concerns.

  • Foreclosures | 0

A young couple purchased a new high-end home across the street for almost $600,000. They had only one income, from the husband who worked as a parochial high school teacher. The wife was a stay-at-home mom. All the neighbors wondered how they could afford such a house. Answer: They couldn't. He did not lie on his application. Yet Chase granted him a mortgage with a monthly payment higher than his take-home salary. He was told he could refinance and magically get money from the home's appreciation. This, of course, led to foreclosure. More bank bungling of a legitimate offer, and ultimately a sale price of $285,000. This depressed the value of all nearby homes. And this gets repeated over and over, depressing our whole economy. Banks must be held accountable!

  • Jobs for the needy | 0

The Wall Street parasites claim they are "job-creators." Very well. Where are the jobs???????

Rather than beg Wall Street for jobs, let's take matters into our own hands. First of all, let's pass Obama's jobs bill.

Then let's eliminate all the tax breaks that benefit the wealthy. Let's eliminate tax breaks for oil companies and tax breaks for off-shoring American jobs. Following the 999 formula by Herman Cain, let's impose a 9% sales tax on all day trades, hedge fund trades, and derivative trades. None of these stock market transactions create jobs.

Then let's impose an emergency surtax on the incomes of the superrich, which kicks in whenever the unemployment rate rises above 6%. Then we can fund jobs in public works projects. Look at the 2009 report by the American Society of Civil Engineers. There's plenty of work to be done. In additon, extreme weather, triggered by global climate change will impose additional strains on our infrastructure, meaning we'll need to spend even more in the future than we are spending now.

In short, let's tax the greedy to fund jobs for the needy.

That's the only way to solve the problem of unemployment.

    Dear Goldman Sachs thug,

Time is running short for you. The People will overwhelm you, eventually. Enjoy your time as a self-absorbed con-man while you can. It isn't going to last as long as you think it will.

We're coming for you. The People will force our government to investigate and prosecute your selfish wrong-doing. People no longer buy into your lies and your deceptions. You are a worthless piece of filth and sooner or later you will get what you deserve.

You should be nervous. Very nervous. Justice will be served -- one way or another.

  • Americans are Fed Up with Wall Street Abuses | 1

I am a just retired teacher, and like millions of Americans I am furious and disgusted with the abuses that led to the financial crisis and the lack of responsibility of Wall Street firms in dealing with fixing the mess they made. We need sound regulation of the banks & other financial firms, we need a financial transaction tax, we need to eliminate the perverse short term incentives that allow people on Wall Street to make millions or billions while undermining the stability of their own institutions and our whole economy. Either Wall Street cleans up its own act, or the people will clean it up. Don't think these protests are minor, and don't think they will go away.

It kills me how you corporate losers fought so hard for deregulation of banking, arguing that there was no need for rules and no purpose for government "interference" in banking affairs. Then you go and screw the public big time, offering "adjustable rate" loans, when interest rates were the lowest they'd been in 40 years! After that dismal failure caused by the housing downturn you didn't foresee, you go to the government asking for bailouts -- guess you didn't mind that kind of interference, eh???
