  • I'm through with Verizon! | 0

    To: Ivan G Seidenberg, Verizon
    Dear Ivan,
This relationship is starting to feel very one-sided. Every month, I pay my bill on time, send you support and encouragement, and have been wholly faithful to our agreement. Yet, more and more, I feel that you take me for granted, that you aren't hearing me when I talk to you, and that we just don't share the same values.

In short, Ivan, I'm over your union-busting, tax-dodging, and CEO over-compensating ways! And I can't stand how you never pick up after yourself or spend any quality time with the kids. I think we need a little time apart.

My contract with you expires in a few more weeks and I'll be moving to a different service provider unless you settle on a fair contract with your workers and stop union-busting immediately!!!

    It's been real, Ivan,

  • Where is your compassion for America? | 0

    To: Lowell C McAdam, Verizon
Despite avoiding federal corporate income taxes from 2008-2010 while raking in billions in profit, Verizon’s executives are ready to destroy middle class jobs. Show your compassion and do the right thing by giving your employees a fair contract. We are watching. Can you hear me now?!

  • You too can be a good citizen | 0

    To: Lowell C McAdam, Verizon
I make a good living and am proud to be in the top tax bracket. Taxes signify a civilization that cares for its elders, educates its children, provides health care for all who need it, builds roads, supports the arts. Historically, these kinds of civilizations flourish, leaving a creative legacy for generations to come. You can be a part of it, too, simply by paying your rightful taxes.

  • Come on, Sir... | 0

    To: Lowell C McAdam, Verizon
    Dear Sir,
I understand the drive to succeed, but I'm hoping you at some point realize that doing so on the backs and heads of others, romping on them like nothing more than playing pieces on a game board, is simply wrong, and in spirit, unethical. I've been a customer for some time, now, but unless I see some more humane, and ethical springing up amongst the executives of Verizon, that business interaction will come to an end. If you won't do the right thing, then it falls to your customer base to encourage you to do so, or lose profit. Save some money, and fire the lobbyists. Sincerely...

    To: Lowell C McAdam, Verizon
Dear Mr McAdam. My name is Chung deh Tien. I am contacting you on behalf of the Verizon unions workers. First I want to thank you for allowing union to continue with its contract. As a individual who have never be in a union, I appreciate that those who are in one, are the lucky ones in our current state of the economy. I do believe in however that doesn't excuse the balance of wages. I am not a socialist but i believe in fairness in proportional pay. This is very important to anyone who believe that A fair days work for a fair days pay. I hope you keep this in mind. when you close the door behind you in your boardroom. your value as an leader is all way transparent with your actions.

  • It's only fair! | 0

    To: Ivan G Seidenberg, Verizon
Please do the right thing and pay your fair share in taxes, not just the amount you can't avoid paying. The rest of us don't have expensive attorneys and accountants to help us avoid paying our fair share. It isn't right to pay less than your fair share, it is actually stealing from the rest of us. Surely, that's not the right thing, don't you think? I hope so.

  • Please pay your fair share | 0

To: Francis J. (Fran) Shammo, Verizon
The country's tax structure favors people who are more wealthy by making it very easy to pay a lower percentage of income to the government compared to how easy it is for the middle class to pay less. It is also unpatriotic. Please do the right thing. I hope you know what that is.

America is now paying attention. PAY YOUR TAXES. PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES FAIR WAGES AND BENEFITS. We are watching, and we will react accordingly. Your move...

  • Do the right thing | 0

    To: Lowell C McAdam, Verizon
    Mr. McAdam,
From all available evidence, you are in charge of a well-run, profitable company that benefits society via the services you provide, your shareholders via the solid profits (even with current contracts in place) you continue to achieve, and yourself and other members of management via your compensation. And for all that, you, your management staff and previous management should be congratulated.

As someone with a family member who is part of your unionized workforce, I would suggest that it is in the interest of all of those noted above to negotiate a strong and fair contract with these workers. And by 'strong' and 'fair', I mean that, in absence of substantial increases in pay (10% or more),Verizon continue to to provide excellent healthcare without asking the employees to start fronting thousands of dollars they previously have not had to pay. In the context of the ongoing national dialogue of fairness, that kind of leap is unfair. It is not unfair, however, to ask them to pay something and I know for a fact that my 'relative employee' is fine with being asked to contribute something--there is plenty of room for compromise.
And if I'm not mistaken, health care costs are probably the highest point of concern; if that can be addressed, it would seem the rest of the contractual details could be dealt with in fairly short order.

Yes, there are those bargaining on the other side of the table from you who see this all as a zero-sum game--you win/they lose, and vice versa, so they can accept NO concessions. I personally believe that kind of narrow, and frankly dated, thinking is large part of why we as a country are in the situation in which we now find ourselves. I am hoping that you are broad enough in your experience, thinking, and perspective to see that it is in no one's interest to force unfair concessions down the throat of middle-class workers.

And there are, for lack of a better term, some lay-about scam artists within that group of 50K--I've met some of them personally. And I find it more offensive than even you might that they are still gainfully employed AND protected by their union because I believe that kind of protection racket totally undermines what this union, or any union, is trying to achieve on behalf of its members. But that does not and cannot justify imposing disproportionate (to current contractual standards) penalties on a workforce that, for 99% of them, are interested in doing the best job they can and in return, expect to simply be treated and compensated fairly, as honest, hard-working adults. Please don't allow these negotiations and the subsequent contract to become a vehicle for punishing the few members who simply look upon their employment as an entitlement that is meant to be milked for all it is worth.

I'm sure you pay at least passing attention to the national discussion that has been playing out for the last couple of years, and I hope you understand the fundamental premise of fairness, or lack thereof, that is driving most of it. Jobs like the ones your unionized members currently have are critical to maintaining a functioning--let alone robust--middle income bracket that benefits all of American society. Nobody I know in this income category is getting rich off of the deal, or laughing at you and your company all the way to the bank. They are simply able to feed, house, and educate their families, provide for their own retirement (rather than having to solely rely on government assistance), and be assured that their health care needs can be met (without running the risk of bankruptcy and ruin and requiring SUBSTANTIAL government assistance).

Thank you for your time and attention and best wishes for the continued success of Verizon, your administration, and your relationship with your unionized workforce.

  • Negotiate with Integrity | 0

    To: Lowell C McAdam, Verizon
As a Verizon customer, I am disappointed that my telephone and internet service provider uses my hard-earned dollars to treat its workers so poorly at the bargaining table. Don't ask your workers to give back their hard-won benefits and pay even while you and your moneyed peers wriggle out of your financial responsibilities to this country. Pay your taxes and treat your workers with respect.”
